Lift the tissue. Change the sensation.
Therapeutic cupping uses controlled suction over one or more selected areas. Instead of pressing down, the cups create a pulling or lifting sensation.
At Avy Spa, cupping can be stationary or gently glided with oil. Your therapist checks the location, intensity and skin response throughout the session. The experience is personalized rather than performed as one fixed routine.
Important: Cupping is wellness care for muscular tension and relaxation. It does not diagnose or treat spinal, nerve, vascular or other medical conditions.
Where does your body feel stuck?
You do not need to know the muscle name. Point to the area, describe the feeling and tell us the intensity you prefer.
Head & Temple Tension
When screen time leaves your head feeling heavy, we can focus on the connected neck, shoulder and upper-back muscles. Cups are not placed on the head.
Neck & Shoulders
For muscles that feel raised, compressed or difficult to relax, especially after long hours at a desk.
Upper-Back Knots
For stubborn tight bands or knots between and around the shoulder blades after screens, driving or rounded posture.
Lower Back & Waist
For broad muscular tightness beside the spine or across the waist after sitting, standing, lifting or long commutes.
Tight Legs & Calves
For legs that feel heavy, tense or slow to loosen after training, travel, standing or long periods of sitting.
Clear, comfortable and never rushed.
Communication matters. Tell your therapist if you want lighter suction, fewer cups, a different area or no visible marks.
Choose the Area
Your therapist confirms where you feel tension, checks the skin and explains where cups may be placed.
Adjust the Suction
Cups are applied gradually. The pulling sensation should feel tolerable and can be reduced or stopped at any time.
Recheck & Relax
The therapist removes or moves the cups, checks how the area feels and continues the massage around your comfort.
Choose enough time for your focus.
Book the length that matches the number of areas you want addressed. Your therapist will personalize the session when you arrive.
Best for one clear priority such as the upper back, one shoulder area or the lower back.
Choose 60 MinutesMore time for connected shoulder, upper-back and lower-back tension without losing full-body relaxation.
Choose 90 MinutesFor several connected areas, a slower pace and an unhurried head-to-toe massage.
Choose 120 MinutesPrices do not include gratuity. Availability depends on the therapist schedule. Results, sensations and skin responses vary by guest.
Know before you book.
A short conversation helps us decide whether cupping, standard massage or another approach is the more comfortable choice.
Cupping may fit you if…
- You have broad muscular tightness across the back, shoulders or waist.
- You prefer a pulling or lifting sensation instead of stronger downward pressure.
- One stubborn area is slow to loosen during regular massage.
- You understand that temporary circular marks may appear.
- You can communicate when the suction feels too strong.
Please check first if…
- You are pregnant, recently had a procedure or have medical restrictions.
- You take blood-thinning medication or have a bleeding or clotting condition.
- The area has broken, burned, infected, inflamed or actively irritated skin.
- You have unexplained bruising, fragile skin or a condition affected by suction.
- You have sudden severe pain, numbness, weakness, fever or a recent serious injury—seek medical care first.
Yes, marks can happen.
Temporary circular color—from light pink to darker red or purple—may remain after cupping. The color and duration vary by skin response and suction level. A darker mark does not mean a better result.
- Stay comfortably hydrated.Drink water after your appointment, but there is no need to force excessive water.
- Be gentle with the area.If the skin feels sensitive, avoid aggressive rubbing, strong heat or direct sun until it settles.
- Keep the skin clean.Contact a healthcare professional if you develop blistering, worsening pain, spreading redness or signs of infection.
- Plan around visible marks.Tell us before the session if you have an event, prefer lighter suction or do not want marks.
Questions before your appointment.
What is therapeutic cupping massage?
Cups create controlled suction over selected muscle areas. They may stay in one place or glide gently with oil, creating a lifting sensation rather than downward pressure.
Which areas can Avy Spa focus on?
Common focus areas include the upper back, shoulder-blade area, shoulders, mid-back, lower back, waist and hips. Placement depends on your comfort, skin condition and the therapist’s assessment.
Can cupping be used for stubborn muscle knots?
Many guests choose cupping when a muscle area feels dense, compressed or slow to loosen. Responses vary, and cupping is not a diagnosis or guaranteed treatment for pain.
Does cupping improve poor circulation?
Cupping temporarily changes skin color and blood flow in the treated area, and some guests notice warmth. It should not be used to diagnose or treat vascular disease or a medical circulation problem.
Does cupping hurt?
You may feel pulling, pressure or warmth. The sensation should remain tolerable. Tell your therapist immediately if it feels sharp, burning, numb or too intense so the suction can be adjusted or stopped.
Will I definitely have circular marks?
Not always, but temporary marks are common. Their color can range from light pink to darker red or purple. Your therapist can use lighter suction, fewer cups or avoid cupping if visible marks are a concern.
How long do cupping marks last?
Marks often fade gradually over several days, but they can remain longer depending on your skin and the intensity used. Contact a healthcare professional if the area blisters, becomes increasingly painful or shows signs of infection.
Do darker marks mean the cupping worked better?
No. Mark color is a skin response, not a score for effectiveness and not proof that “toxins” were removed. Comfort and skin safety matter more than producing a dark mark.
Should I choose 60, 90 or 120 minutes?
Choose 60 minutes for one main area. We recommend 90 minutes for connected shoulder, upper-back and lower-back tension. Choose 120 minutes when you want several focus areas plus a complete, unhurried full-body massage.
What should I do after cupping?
Drink water and stay comfortably hydrated. Keep the skin clean, avoid aggressive rubbing and be gentle with strong heat or direct sun if the treated area feels sensitive.
Who should ask a healthcare professional before cupping?
Ask first if you are pregnant, take blood-thinning medication, have a bleeding or clotting condition, fragile or actively irritated skin, recent surgery, or medical restrictions. Do not use cupping over open, burned or infected skin.
When is massage not the right first step?
Seek medical care first for sudden or severe pain, a serious recent injury, fever, spreading redness, worsening numbness or weakness, difficulty walking, or bowel or bladder changes. Avy Spa provides wellness massage and does not diagnose medical conditions.
